Blue Orange Youth Theatre classes aim to provide an exciting, enjoyable and creative platform for local young people aged 6 – 18 to learn skills in creating excellent quality theatre. The classes are divided into Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors who meet on Saturdays mornings during term time at the Blue Orange Theatre on Great Hampton Street, Birmingham, B18 6AD.

What We Do

Our programme gives young people an exciting, enjoyable and creative platform to develop drama skills in a supportive environment. Students work on:
- Drama fundamentals and performance techniques
- Vocal and physical theatre
- Devising and improvisation
- Scriptwriting
- Teamwork and confidence building
All students present their work twice yearly to family and friends. Senior members periodically produce short films.

Our Tutors
Simon Ravenhill
Simon Ravenhill is a director, writer, production designer and former actor who has worked in professional theatre for almost 30 years.
Since graduating from drama school his career includes over eighteen years in educational theatre as an actor, director and company manager; this included national tours of both schools and major theatres.
As an actor he has worked for the BBC, Carlton and has stage performances included work at The Edinburgh Fringe, The Battersea Art Centre and The Bristol Old Vic.
He has been involved with the Blue Orange Theatre since it’s conception and has directed, written and worked behind the scenes on dozens of productions for its resident company, Blue Orange Arts. Simon has been facilitating youth drama for the Blue Orange Youth Theatre for over ten years.


Janaya Alcock
Janaya has been acting from a very young age, gaining stage and screen credits from as young as eleven. Janaya moved to Birmingham from Liverpool in 2001. She graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BA (Hons) degree in Drama and English in 2004.
Following this Janaya took on different career paths, including teaching, before entering into TIE working with Loudmouth Theatre Company for five years. During this time Janaya travelled the country performing and delivering workshops for young people and adults.
Janaya has also worked in a freelance capacity as a facilitator, workshop leader and drama coach. Her passion for working with children and especially early years groups, stems from her own two sons. She says that she is constantly in ‘CBeebies’ mode at home with her boys.
